NACCS Tejas Foco Committee on PreK-12 Education Invitation

To All National Association for Chicana & Chicano Studies (NACCS) Tejas Foco 2018 Members and Allies:

The Texas State Board of Education will be casting an historic vote on a Mexican American Studies (MAS) high school course at their next board meeting on April 10-13, 2018, in Austin. The NACCS Tejas Foco Committee on Mexican American Studies in Pre-K-12 Education is organizing a major rally and signing up people to testify in favor of a MAS course for Tuesday, April 10th.

You are invited to a special planning and strategy session for this Texas State Board of Education from 3-4:50 p.m., Friday, February 16 at the NACCS Tejas Foco 2018 conference, Texas Lutheran University, Seguin, Texas. Please refer to the conference webpage for updated room information: https://www.naccstejasfoco2018.com.

This will be an information sharing and brainstorming/strategizing session on this major statewide effort for MAS. Items to be discussed will be: a petition, media campaign, legislative strategy, state board of education strategy, and forming planning committee for the MAS demonstration in Austin on April 10th.

There will also be a follow-up meeting on this issue at the regularly scheduled NACCS Tejas Foco Committee for MAS Pre-K-12 meeting on Saturday, February 17th at 3:45 pm. Once again refer to the conference website for room information.

All are invited to attend both meetings. We need your ideas and support for this historic SBOE vote on MAS. Spread the word y allí nos vemos.

Sinceramente,

Christopher Carmona

Chair, NACCS Tejas Foco Committee on Mexican American Studies in PreK-12 Education
